About us
2020 Green Vision was formed in December 2007 as a
voluntary community organisation to ensure a greener future for the village of
Collingham and its surrounding communities.
Collingham is predominantly a residential settlement
consisting mainly of homes built between the 17th century and the mid-1900s. It
is a rural but accessible village with good facilities, a primary school and
public transport. It has a population of more than 2700 (2001 census) and a
higher than national average number of retired people. (see
www.collingham-notts.org.uk)
The establishment of 2020 Green Vision acknowledged the
need to reduce reliance on unsustainable fossil fuels and associated
climate-changing carbon dioxide emissions and the need for local initiatives to
support government policies in this area.
Aims
2020 Green Vision aims to promote sustainable lifestyles
and energy efficiency in Collingham and the surrounding area by involving
residents in a range of activities and self-help initiatives.
Objectives
-
To achieve a 20%
reduction in Collingham’s carbon footprint by 2020
-
To support the local
primary school education programmes on environmental awareness
-
To operate and support a
mix of community produce-growing and selling ventures
-
To promote recycling,
energy efficiency and increased use of public transport
-
To promote biodiversity
within Collingham and its communities.
